Driver tries to overtake at high speed then started swaying and end hitting the median barrier.
Safe overtaking necessitates drivers to minimize hazards by accelerating properly, using the proper gear to execute the overtaking move, and doing so as quickly as feasible. Here are five tips for carefully overtaking to help you avoid accidents:
1. Keep a safe distance between you and the car ahead of you. If the vehicle in front of you suddenly stops or decelerates, you'll have plenty of time to respond. Keep an eye on oncoming traffic and make sure there's enough room on the road ahead. Make a quick visual check in front of you to make sure there's no other car or threat.
2. Keep an eye on the traffic behind you and be aware that other cars may wish to pass you. Check your blind areas and use the mirrors. Use the signal lights to let other cars know what you're up to. Before overtaking, flash the signal lights for at least five seconds and keep an eye out for other vehicles.
3. Give the car you're passing enough room after you're satisfied there's a safe distance and a clear road ahead. Make eye contact with the other vehicle, use your horn, or flash your headlights to alert them to your desire to pass.
4. As rapidly as possible, accelerate and overtake. To give your car greater power and acceleration, you may need to shift to a lower gear.
After passing the car, give a signal indicating your intention to return to the lane. Return to the lane as soon as possible and avoid cramming the vehicle you just passed. Return to your normal driving speed.
IF YOU ARE THE ONE BEING OVERTAKEN
You may be the one who is overtaken by others at times. If you're being overtaken, give the other driver the civility he or she deserves. Make every effort to work together in order to keep both you and the overtaking vehicle safe. When being overtaken, it is really preferable to slow down so that the entire process can be completed sooner, which is safer for everyone.
