The Process of Glazing a Handmade Stoneware Mug (#Shorts)
Published at : October 29, 2021
A #Shorts video showing the glazing of a mug. The base of each has been brushed over with a layer of watered down wax emulsion, which acts as a resist and prevents the red iron oxide coloured glaze to adhere to the bottom. If this weren't the base and the pot was loaded into the kiln with a glazed foot they'd simply weld stuck to the kiln shelves, only removable via the use of a hammer. Stick around till the end to see how this red changes to a dark green once reduction fired to 1290ºc.
