Remains of Ancient Roman House Discovered in Backyard
Published at : November 28, 2021
Officials in Turkey take a winding path through streets and alleys in the city of Izmir, to get to a hole in the ground. They set up a ladder and descend several feet into the chamber of what was once the dwelling of a wealthy Roman family. The site is some 2,700 years old, and includes a fluted column and tile mosaic on the floor. Izmir, located in western Turkey on the Aegean coast, is home to several fascinating recent architectural finds.
