She Was The Best Old-time Telephone Operator. Remember Her?
Published at : February 27, 2022
Those of you old enough to remember the telephone operator. She was a real person. And if you lived in rural areas you even knew her first name. She was always a she. She genuinely tried to help you. I got the chance to make this television commercial for AT&T who at the time was "the" phone company. They asked me to do a short film in honor of the person who won the award as the greatest or best – sometimes first – telephone operator (but she clearly wasn't the first). Many of my generation paint a picture of that time being a better time because things were "more personal", and the telephone was a device you didn't say on too long because it cost a lot of money. I don't agree with that point of view. I think things have never been better in terms of communication with all of the modern technologies, especially the Internet and the cell phone. Some of my generation think that younger generations use the phone to frequently. I'm more interested in the changes that I am judging the old time is better. By that judgment, every old time seems to many to be better. In my lifetime, the present is the best.
